Sports injury

It’s been said before: poor training and warm up practices and improper gear can lead to all sorts of injuries. Should the unfortunate happen, we’ll address all your concerns in the quickest and most effective way possible. Common sports injuries include:

  • Sprains and strains
  • Knee injuries
  • Swollen muscles
  • Achilles tendon
  • Shin bone injuries
  • Fractures

Note: In the event of dislocations, stop what you’re doing immediately! Continuing your activity may cause more harm. Keep RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation) in mind to relieve pain, reduce swelling and speed up recovery.

Other possible treatments include pain relievers, rehabilitation and if necessary, surgery such as:

  • Ligamentous reconstructive surgery
  • Meniscus cartilage surgery

Knee and hip joint replacements

These are surgeries that involve replacing an injured or ailing knee or hip with an artificial joint or prosthesis. They offer the best chance for a return to pain-free mobility.

Why are joint replacements performed?

The most common reason is to relieve severe osteoarthritis pain, caused by breakdown of the cartilage. Both knee and hip joint replacements are usually done for people aged 60 years or older. Younger people who have had a knee or hip replaced may put extra stress on the artificial joint, causing it to wear out prematurely. Part or all of the joint may need to be replaced again if that happens.

You may be a candidate if:

  • You’re unable to sleep because of the pain
  • Pain limits your normal daily activities
  • You’re unable to walk and care for yourself
  • You find no improvements with other treatments
  • You have fractures in the thigh bone. Older adults often have a hip replacement for this reason
  • You suffer from hip joint tumours
